After having commanded his brigade in Drass, Kargil, Brig Rajiv Williams sought premature retirement from the Indian Army in 2005. He thereafter joined Jindal Stainless Limited, New Delhi as Corporate Head – CSR and has since initiated a number of projects on Education, Skill training, Disability Sector, Health, Women Empowerment, Agriculture projects with a focus on doubling farmer income’, projects on Solar water and solar lighting systems, etc. He has also been a driver of the program on Business and Human Rights and as member CII CSR Council, has sensitized CII members on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Brig Williams is a member of the Governing Council, UN Global Compact Network India, been an Independent Director CSR as also a member of various CSR Committees with Industry Associations and so on. As Convener UN GCNI Human Rights Committee, he championed the initiative ‘The India CEO Forum on Business and Human Rights’.
Brig Williams is a recipient of military and civil awards. Besides the military service medals awarded, he has been awarded gallantry awards - Yudh Seva Medal and Mention in Dispatches for operations in Kargil and Siachen Sectors. In the development sector, he is a recipient of the ‘Asia Pacific Leadership Award’ awarded at Singapore in 2012, a Citation for the ‘Top 100 Most Impactful Global CSR leaders’ by the World CSR Congress in 2016 and was declared as ‘Top 25 CSR Leaders in India’ in August 2017. In addition, he has also been awarded for Human Rights and ‘Most Excellence CSR Award’ in December 2017.
A prolific writer and speaker at various forums and conferences, Rajiv has been invited to speak at the United Nations offices in New York and Geneva with a focus on issues relating to ‘Women Empowerment’, ‘Entrepreneurship Development’ and ‘Business and Human Rights’.
He has co-authored books on ‘SIACHEN GLACIER’, which was published by Rupa and Co. and on the Indian Military Academy. He has written several papers on varied topics from conflict prevention and security to matters relating to Responsible Business and Corporate Citizenship. His recent paper on Corporate Social Responsibility has been published in the book ‘CSR in India’, which has been published by Springer International, Switzerland and released in Bonn, Germany.
